Is there a natural herb or remedy, that can do the same thing as ritalin without the nasty side effects?
So my nephew has been prescribed ritalin], and I was wondering if that was the healthiest way to go? I know that there are herbal and natural remedies and techniques that can replace most or all prescription drugs. Most prescription medication can be harmful to your health, and drugs like this can come with long term problems. Does anyone know of an alternative cure, or something that can help the problem without hurting the one taking it?

There are claims that herbal medicines can be used to treat almost anything, including ADHD. A website that offers explainations about how various herbal medicines can be used to treat ADHD is http://www.healing-arts.org/children/ADHD/herbal.htm.
The use of herbal medications for treating ADHD and other health conditions, medical or physical, is controversial and nobody should stop their prescribed treatment drugs without talking to their doctors.
Additionally, the FDA does not evaluate the effectiveness of herbal medications or the ingredients of herbal medications. A recent congressional report actually revealed that nearly all of the herbal pills it tested contained lead and other contaminants and that many supplements contained false medical claims.
According to ConsumerLab.com, a company that has tested over 2,000 dietary supplements made by more than 300 manufacturers and has found that one in four have quality problems, the most common problems with herbal medicines/supplements are the lack of adequate quantities of the indicated ingredients that are said to have the benefit of use.
There are also non stimulant medications that may be beneficial in treating ADHD. One common non stimulant medication is Strativva.
Other treatment options include behavioral modification, dietary restrictions and social skills training.
